Community

Scotland The Bread is more than a flour mill. As a Community Benefit Society, our goal is to create opportunities for everyone to get involved in a Scottish flour and bread supply that is healthy, equitable, locally controlled and sustainable.
We work in partnership with communities across Scotland to introduce people to our nutritious grains and support them in developing the knowledge and skills to grow, process and bake these into delicious bread.
Our projects aim to create local resilience and inspire communities to look with fresh eyes at their daily loaf. Find out more about each project and how to get involved:
Soil to Slice
Encouraging communities to grow, harvest, thresh, mill and bake with more nutritious grains in their local area
The People’s Bread
An alternative that is verifiably better – and within reach of everyone.
Flour to the People
Increasing access to more nutritious flour and the skills to bake it into delicious bread
“There is something about baking that is very unifying … it’s like a big warm hug” (Flour to the People participant)
We want to ensure that we remain responsive to feedback from communities who have been involved with our projects so far and would love to hear ideas and suggestions from people who have had a taste of what better bread means. Please get in touch with us: info@scotlandthebread.org
Support our work
There is increasing interest from communities across Scotland to learn more about where their bread comes from. We want to develop these successful projects so that more people are empowered to discover and engage in a better flour and bread system.
Donate today to help us:
• support a growing network of communities in Scotland working to improve access to healthy and sustainable bread
• connect people to the joy and benefits of growing and baking with nutritious, local grains and flour
• extend our work to reach children and young people
