A Healthy Solution
We need
to grow better grains, bake them well in our neighbourhoods, and make this nutritious bread accessible to everyone.
We have
- researched genetically diverse grains with above-average nutrients and remarkable flavour
- grown these grains organically using regenerative farming practices
- begun milling and selling these grains and flour commercially, and donating to community groups through our Solidarity Bag programme
- brought our Flour to the People through an innovative project increasing community breadmaking skills and local food resilience
We are
- working with skilled bakers who are introducing local people to better bread made using our grains
- supporting a network of communities to grow plots of wheat and create a more local bread supply from Soil to Slice
- involving more people in the development of our crops through citizen science and our People’s Plant Breeding initiative
- collaborating on research towards a farming system that provides more nourishment per hectare
We will
- continue research into the most diverse, nutritious and flavoursome grains possible
- develop new food products based on our grains
- create demand pull (eg. via public procurement) that will bring credible environmental and public health impacts along with food chain resilience
- support others to grow diverse grain organically and establish their own localised, sustainable flour and bread supply
